Neverland, photo essay by Paola Leonardi
This photo essay forms a lyrical exploration of the contended borders of Armenia and of the Self Declared Republic of Nagorno Karabagh, which the photographer has covered often on foot or hitch hiking.
These borders are to the west with long standing enemy Turkey, and to the east with Azerbaijan, where the 1991/1994 conflict saw the birth of the Self Declared Republic of Nagorno Karabagh.
The images focus on the communities that live in the contended areas and often have been subjected to forced population exchanges.
As Armenia is celebrating the 100 years anniversary of the genocide, the situation in the border areas remains tense.
